Year 9
The Year 9 programme is a compulsory option class which lasts around six weeks for each group. It’s an exciting, hands-on class which aims to develop student's practical skills through activities involving drawing, painting and other media and techniques.

Year 10
The Year 10 programme is a continuation of the Year 9 Visual Arts course and a
preparation for the Year 11 NCEA level 1 course. Students will continue developing their
skills in drawing, painting and mixed media.  They will also learn to talk and write about
Art and how to learn through example by looking at the work of New Zealand and
international artists.

Year 11
The Year 11 programme builds upon prior learning in Year 10 to consolidate skills in both practical and theoretical content. It is important that students choosing this course understand that they will be expected to participate in both written and practical work. As all the senior art classes use paint as their primary medium, students will need to be prepared to use paint predominantly.

Year 12
Again, the year 12 programme builds upon prior learning in Year 11 to consolidate skills in both practical and theoretical content. Students must have passed the Level 1 course in order to study Art at Level 2.

Year 13
Once again, the Year 13 programme builds upon prior learning in Year 12 to consolidate skills in both practical and theoretical content. Like the year 12 art programme, Year 13 Art also focuses predominantly on painting. Through this course, students will develop their personal style in preparation for further study at tertiary level.
